I have long found stories of Louis Bacon of Moore Capital interesting. Google him. Read up.

While Bacon is never classified as a trend following trader, he trades off price action and uses futures markets. That sounds a lot like trend trading to me. About 3 years ago I was talking with a top trend trader (who now manages over $10 billion). We were talking about “mystique” and “image” in general of some top traders (Bacon was not discussed). His point to me? Traders, who have consistently posted the big returns, almost invariably are trend following traders whether they publicly admit it or not.

Just read an interview of Louis by Lock Adamson. The first granted by Louis I have ever read. Reads like the Louis Bacon I knew when I used to test the bounce coefficient of my Dunlop Maxpli on the courts of EHS. He ends the interview with some perspective on our brave new world. I agree a new twist in our emergent economics may very well bear more than a whisper of Malthus(and population J-curves). I am always glad to read where people, as Louis has done, practice the one of the best acts of conservation. Buy the land and assure it will be well managed!! Now back to Market research, I don’t think Louis is, consistently, a trend follower.

Sorry for the pause. I was listening to Cabonari of Fortune Brands talk about consumption shifts in “Liquid Consumables”. The interview of Louis was recently in ALPHA iimagazine. See if a search or “Google” produces anything for you under “Louis Bacon”. I was researching some of the equity shifts in the hedge industry RAN ACROSS Lee Ainslie with Maverick Capital and eventually led back to seeing what Louis was up to.
